About The Hornets

Harrisonburg Hornets Basketball Academy is an registered organization that operates as an insured, non-profit entity (501c3) of AAU basketball. Every coach and administrator will undergo an AAU mandated background check, concussion training and coaching development through the “Positive Coaching Alliance”.

We want to develop our athletes using a holistic approach. Of course we work on our basketball development through skills and drills, and we also want our athletes to thrive socially in the community and to excel in academics at their perspective school. We want our athletes to have a positive impact on our community on and off the basketball court. The Hornets organization is dedicated to developing players beyond the court,  each team will come up with a community service project to do together as a team during their season.

Each member of the Hornets organization will strive to provide for our players a safe, challenging, and enjoyable experience.

Our goals for each athlete include:

About Our Teams:

We form our team after having community-wide tryouts. Tryouts for 4th-7th grade boys and girls will take place in October. Try-outs for 8th – 12th grades will be held in late February. Our teams usually practice 2 days/week. Days of the week and location will be determined by the coach and gym availability. Players are expected to attend practices and should notify their coach if they are unable to attend. The coach will select their team’s tournament schedule. Many of our Hornets teams play in local tournaments (Broadway, Elkton, Shenandoah, Staunton, Front Royal- and possibly West VA etc.). Our Mid-Atlantic Teams (which can begin in 8th grade) will travel out of Virginia to play in tournaments,
